Welcome to the Western Howard County Youth Basketball website. We offer both recreational and travel basketball for girls and boys ages 6 thru 17. Currently in our 31st year of operation, we serve approximately 2,000 youngsters in the Howard County area.
Registration for the 2011-2012 recreational program is now open. All WHCYBA players are limited to playing on "one" WHCYBA team only during the season. Groups fill quickly so make it a point to register early. We will not guarantee placement for registratons received after October 1.
In order to promote evenly-balanced teams, all Recreational Program players ages 7 thru 17 will have a skills evaluation in mid-October. The schedules for the evaluations will be posted on this site in early October. Age 6 will not be evaluated.
Travel team tryouts are held in September. Check this site in late August for dates, times and locations. Registered players requesting travel will received email notification of tryouts.
Games and practices take place in Western Howard Co schools. Players age 6 will be assigned to teams based on proximity to schools. Players ages 7 & 8 will be assigned to teams based on proximity to schools however skill evaluations may also be taken into consideration. All other age group teams will be determined on the basis of ability and height. No guarantees will be given as to school locations for practice or game play, no exceptions.
League games and instructional clinic will begin the first Saturday in December 2011. Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday. Some weekday games may be scheduled, this will be determined at a later date. No guarantees will be given as to play days or times.
To receive a refund, having no participation, you must notify the WHCYBA in writing by the start of league play in December 2011. An administration fee of $15.00 will be withheld from all individual fees refunded. The Board reserves the right to change this policy.
In the event of snow, call the Howard County Inclement Weather Hotline, 410-313-6827, to find out if the schools have been closed. Note that school activities may be cancelled but unless the message states that community activities are also cancelled, our basketball events will be held.
